Burg Liechtenstein

Visit Burg Liechtenstein for a fun day trip from Vienna!

Located in Maria Enzersdorf, the Burg Liechtenstein is a castle you definitely should visit. Keep on reading to learn more about our partnership with the castle and the discount we offer.

The castle was built by Hugo of Liechtenstein between 1130 and 1135. Due to a marriage contract the castle got into the hands of the Stadeck family by 1295. The castle often changed owners between different royal families like the dukes of Cilli and king Matthias Corvinius.

The houses of Khevenhiller and Aichelberg owned the castle from 1592 on. Prince Johann Josef the 1st of Liechtenstein acquired the castle from prince Poniantovsky. By that, he returned the ownership to the house of Liechtenstein in 1807. This ownership is still living on today.

Most parts of the romanic castle have survived and can still be visited today, the Burg Liechtenstein counts as one of the rare romanic surviving secular buildings of the 12th century in Europe.

The tour of the castle can only be done with a guide, the tour lasts about 50 Minutes, please note that the tour isn’t barrier-free. Thanks to our partnership with the Burg Liechtenstein you’ll get a discount on your tickets (10 € instead of 12€), all you have to do is tell them that you’ve read about the castle on our Secret Vienna website or on our social media
