Cafe Korb

a store front at night

Just like the Café Demel, the Café Korb is one of our traditional coffee houses, located in the first district.

The place where the Café Korb is located is full of old history, tracing back to the 15th century. In the 19th century, the coffee house that was built on the site was one of the first where women were allowed to sit and dine.

Between 1904 and 1906 the coffee house Korb moved into the newly built house, founded by the couple Amalie and Adolf Korb. Amalie and Adolf had three children, Jenny, their daughter was a well-known opera singer in Vienna.

In the middle of the 20th century, the house of the Café Korb was renovated and built in the form we know today. Family Widl, who has owned the coffee house since 1950, redid the interior while renovations were taking place, to remind one of old traditions. The design can still be found today. Originals like wooden chairs, chandeliers and their old facade stand for the charm of the Café Korb.

Old photographs tell stories of the famous guests that have visited the coffee house over the past decades. Worth a visit is also the Café Korb’s basement, one can find a lounge down there where artists like to meet.

Viennese people as well as tourists cherish this gem, we certainly can’t wait to go back there and drink our coffee while listening to stories about the Café Korb’s history.
