The story of Lady Justitia

Vienna City Tours

Some days ago, you SV explorer decided to enter a building that is accessible to the public, but that perhaps is not well known. This is the Justizpalast (Palace of Justice) that was built in 1875-1881 by the architect Alexander Wielemans and is located at Schmerlingplatz 11. Perhaps the most famous picture of the Justizpalast is that of lady “Justitia”, whose sculptor was Emanuel Pendl. Lady Justitia is located in the stairs of the main hall and sits on a chair holding a golden sword with her right hand and a legal code with the other. There is a good reason to visit her as you can visit the “Justizcafe”, which is located on the top of the building with a nice view and is open Mo-Fr from 7:30 to 16:00. Enjoy! (Cr).
