The Vienna English Theatre

Enjoy Theatre productions in English at the Vienna English Theatre

I’m sure some of you have heard of the VET – Vienna English Theatre – before. It is the oldest and most established English-language theatre in continental Europe.

The Austrian director Franz Schafranek and his American wife Ruth Brinkmann founded the VET in 1963. They originally intended it to be a summer theatre for English speaking tourists. The VET kept moving around different locations as they were presenting plays directed by Schafranek, while his wife acted in the productions. In 1974 they found their permanent location in the Josefsgasse, where the theatre is still located today.

International Stars have found their way to the VET over the past centuries, let it be Linda Gray, Benedict Cumberbatch or Judi Dench. Around 1978 French productions were also added to their program as well as Italian ones.

Till the 7th of July you can watch their new show Syncopation by Allan Knee. Click here for more information. If you missed it, don’t worry, this established theatre offers great shows regularly. On their website you will find all the upcoming shows in English. You should also follow our Facebook or Instagram as we often have raffles. If you are lucky, you might get to win free tickets to one of these awesome theatre productions.
