The String Quartet and the Piano Trio
The Mozart Ensemble offers two types of concerts, either by the String Quartet or by the Piano Trio. Until not long ago, the String Quartet concert was the main concert they offered and was a bestseller, even in the competitive classical music scene in Vienna. As the name suggests, it consists of 2 violins, a viola and a cello.
The String Quartet concert is performed weekly- every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 20:00. Make sure to check our schedule, as if the concert is full there’s often a 2nd concert opened at 18:00. The concert lasts approximately 1.5 hours including a break.
The 2nd concert, performed by the Piano trio, is a more recent addition to the portfolio of the Ensemble, and has quickly become a fan favourite. The trio includes a piano, a violin and a cello, an absolutely beautiful combination of instruments. You can expect listening to legendary pieces by Mozart, Schubert, Beethoven and other legendary composers. Some of the highlights of this concert include the Andante of Schubert’s Trio op. 100 and the famous piano trio all’Ongarese by Joseph Haydn.
The Piano Trio concert is performed weekly- every Tuesday and Thursday at 20:00. Make sure to check our schedule, as if the concert is full there’s often a 2nd concert opened at 18:00. The concert lasts approximately 1.5 hours including a break.
The Sala Terrena Concert Hall:
The concerts offered by the Mozart Ensemble Vienna take place in arguably the most unique and authentic concert halls. This exclusive and unique space is called the Sala Terrena, which means “Hall of the ground floor” in Italian. The space was built as part of the monastery of the German Teutonic Order in the 12th century. You will find it in one of Vienna’s most charming hidden courtyards, the Deutsche Orden Hof. You surely know where it is if you booked our “Secrets in the heart of Viienna” or “Elitist and discreet societies” tours.
By booking this classical music concert, you will get to sit in the same hall where Mozart performed himself! You see, in 1781 Mozart lived in Vienna and stayed for several months at the German Teutonic Order monastery. He played several concerts in the Sala Terrena, Vienna’s oldest concert hall, on behalf of Archbishop Colloredo, an important patron of the Mozart family and the ruler of Salzburg.
As you enter the small yet charming hall, you will immediately see the magnificent frescoes. These are the authentic frescoes that Mozart saw as he entered the same hall. If you have a sharp eye, you might recognize the baroque influences as well as the venetian late Renaissance style of the interior. It’s truly a one of a kind location for an unforgettable concert.
Booking and Cancellation Policies:
To make the booking process as easy as possible for you, we enable you to pay a prepayment in advance and the rest in cash at the concert hall. After paying your prepayment, you will receive an automatic email with your confirmation, as well as instructions how to reach the location.
