Vienna’s DC Tower – The Skyscraper That Towers Over the City
When walking around Vienna, it’s always a good idea to look up—there’s so much detail on the city’s buildings that often goes unnoticed. But some structures are simply impossible to miss. One of them is the DC Tower, standing tall above Donau City as Austria’s highest skyscraper.
Since its completion in 2014, the DC Tower 1 has held the record as Vienna’s tallest building, reaching 220 meters and surpassing the Millennium Tower. Designed by French architect Dominique Perrault, it is part of a two-tower project, though Tower 2 has been delayed multiple times. The first tower was inaugurated in February 2014, with none other than Buzz Aldrin attending the event—because why not add a bit of space-age flair to Vienna’s modern skyline?
A Tower That Stands Out
Apart from being incredibly tall, DC Tower 1 has a striking design that makes it hard to ignore. Its folded glass facade gives the illusion of movement, playing with light and reflections as you walk past. Inside, the tower is home to offices, apartments, a hotel, and even a sky bar with some of the best views in the city.
Originally, DC Tower 2 was supposed to look like its big brother, but the plans have changed. Once completed, it will stand at 175 meters and feature a completely different facade with built-in solar panels. This will make it one of Europe’s most sustainable high-rises. Construction is now finally underway, with completion expected in 2026.
A Look Into the Future
With its sleek design and record-breaking height, the DC Tower is one of the most recognizable buildings in Vienna. Once Tower 2 is complete, it will surely transform the Donau City skyline.
