A must visit museum in Vienna – KHM

Visiting the KHM is perfect for those days where you need a change of your daily routine.

If you’re visiting Vienna, you have to visit at least one of our famous museums. The Kunsthistorische Museum, short KHM (Museum of Fine Arts), is one of them. Located in the first district you won’t have to search long to find this museum.

The museum was built from 1871 to 1891. It houses paintings by Rubens, Dürer, Vermeer, Titian. It also houses the most comprehensive collection of Bruegel’s paintings in the world. The Picture Gallery of the museum developed from the art collections of the House of Habsburg (Austria’s royal family, which ruled till 1918). Today the Picture Gallery is one of the largest and most important of its kind in the world.

Make sure to study the museum’s exhibition calendar, so you can know which special exhibitions will be on when you visit. Their website can be found here
