Vienna is beautiful, no matter the season, and yet there’s something very special about winter in our city. Numerous songs manage to catch the Viennese winter atmosphere, stories talk about it and even movies portray it.

1. A winter hike

If you are desperate for a few hours away from the buzz of the city, think about visiting the Kahlenberg area. The forest has something truly magical to it. Think about hiking up the Kahlenberg to admire the city from the viewing platform.

2. Eislaufverein

Ice skating is a must-do activity in Vienna, if you like winter activities. The Wiener Eislaufverein is a famous spot, it has a long history dating back to the 1860s. You can visit this spot, which is located near the Stadtpark and the Musikverein, on a daily basis between 9 am and 8 pm.

3. Eisschwimmen

Ice Swimming is a famous activity nowadays. Most importantly it is an activity you can do in Vienna. The Badeschiff, located at the Franz-Josephs-Kai, is open daily, with an entry-fee of 3.50€ you can try ice swimming here. Please be aware that the pool isn’t supervised, you have to do this on your own risk.

4. Curling

Have you ever tried curling? At the Badeschiff you can try doing this with your friends or family. You have to schedule an appointment beforehand, which you can do here.
