If you love history and coffee, the Cafe Schönbergers is the perfect spot!
There are many places to drink coffee in Vienna. Some have impressive interior designs and others are more spartan. Some of them are small and others are big and always crowded. Not all of them have great coffee and definitely not all of them feel like your own living room. Cafe Schönbergers combines important characteristics if you are looking for a nice place to drink coffee. An attractive interior design, great coffee, and it feels familiar.
Located on Wiedner Haupstrasse 40, Patrick Schönberger used to be a manager working in the telecommunications sector. He apparently he did not like the office’s coffee and eventually opened his own Café in 2015.
The location used to belong to the famous Viennese coffee roaster NABER. Its interior design was the work of Ernst Otto Hofmann in 1955. The building where the coffee house is located is known as “Zur goldenen Kugel”. This was built in 1838. Offering around 50 types of roasts, Schönbergers’ coffees come from Austria, Italy and Germany. If you go there often enough you will end up drinking all those 50 types of roasts.
Schönberger’s passion for coffee has led to a coffee house that attracts a lot of people from the neighbourhood and elsewhere. Many of them are regular visitors. The environment makes you feel comfortable while reading the newspaper or just staring at the interior design. After some visits it is likely that you will know the names of the people working there and they will know yours.
The place will be part of the Tag des Denkmals on September 29th. In addition to a cup of great coffee, certainly there will be more information about the Cafe and equally its interior design. Schönberger offers coffee for every taste, so it is definitely worth a visit! (Cr)
The Tag des Denkmals is organized by the Austrian Federal Monuments Authority (Bundesdenkmalamt – BDA). The aim of the event is to make the public aware of the importance of cultural heritage and to raise awareness about heritage protection and monument preservation.
